Some of the local wildlife such as snakes, foxes and puffer fish, are pet hazards.
Snakes
There are a number of snakes living around the Rifle Range in Williamstown and the Newport lakes. If your pet is bitten by a snake, call us and bring your pet in as quickly and safely possible.
Foxes
The fox population is growing along the river and the railway line. Foxes are not timid and roam through suburban areas at night. If you have rabbits, guinea pigs or chickens protect them from foxes by ensuring they are safe in cages at night time.
Puffer fish
Dead puffer fish wash up on the beaches in Williamstown and Altona. Puffer fish are poisonous if eaten by your dog. If you dog shows signs of being poisoned, prompt treatment will be required.
Fish hooks
Hooks are sometimes left on the beach. The hooks smell attractive to dogs and they may get them stuck in their mouths and throats.
