It’s grass seed season again!
We see grass seeds in dogs daily during spring and summer. Grass seeds easily get caught in hair and travel through to the skin. Unfortunately grass seeds only travel in one direction meaning intervention is needed to remove them. If left in the skin they can travel throughout the entire body causing greater problems. We mainly see grass seeds lodged in paws or ears but they can get caught anywhere.
Our recommendation is to get your pooch groomed regularly as well as checking your dog’s paws and ears after your walk so you can remove them out of the hair before they impact the skin
Common symptoms of a grass seed being caught in your dog’s skin are
- itchy
- shaking head
- chewing/licking at the site
- swelling at the site.
